In our parts, the little pigs are called “wuggis” and our Wuggi Spread has delicious, Mangalitza bacon, matured in natural conditions. This is enhanced with mild spices like turmeric, cumin and caraway seeds and can be thoroughly enjoyed as a spread. Bacon from Mangalitza pigs is an extremely in-demand delicacy and also contains many unsaturated fatty acids and very little cholesterol. It’s matured slowly and organically and not heat-treated.
In our zoo, the Mangalitza pigs live outside in a little wood throughout the entire year. Even though their meat is much appreciated, the breed was close to extinction because the Mangalitza pigs cannot be kept in animal housing alone. By extensively keeping them in little routs, the population slowly recovers.
