A Piece of Forest – chocolate for the environment

a piece of forest-chocolate

The UNO has declared 2011 to be the Year of the Forest – a Piece of Forest is our contribution to this.

We will plant a tree in the rainforest per sold bar of Piece of Forest Chocolate  This means that we got involved the project in Laos which is directed by the WWF in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Forests. Laos ranks among those South East Asian countries which still comprise the largest coherent woodland areas. The specific field of action is the protective area “Xe Pian“, the habitat of the tiger which is threatened with extinction. In “Xe Pian” the rainforest which is still intact shall be protected from logging. Our “Piece of Forest” trees will be planted as an enrichment planting with local tree species in selected corridors which connect the protective areas to each other. This results in the creation of an extensive habitat with a wide range of biodiversity. Starting from January we will publish the latest numbers of trees as well as the areas online in order to make the project transparent for the consumers.

Our partners

Our cooperation with strong partners such as the WWF, the Austrian Federal Forests and Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management Environment enables us to plant one tree per sold bar of chocolate. These partners provide the entire infrastructure, the workforce and the funds. We only provide the trees.
