30 cents of each chocolate bar sold go to the »Chocolate for School« project in Tanzania and contribute towards building a school dining hall and kitchen, which will finally serve more than 300 kindergarten and primary school kids. The school in Isaka provides children with nutritious meals as well as an education that will offer them a brighter future. A cooperation with the »Caritas« organisation.

The project: school meals & an education for children in Tanzania
According to stats released by Unicef, around 2 million children between the ages of 7 and 13 don’t go to school in Tanzania. The order of Francis de Sales has been active for a long time in providing better access to education for the children in Tanzania, especially in rural areas, for example by founding the Isaka elementary school. Isaka’s around 18.000 inhabitants mainly live off livestock farming (mostly goats and cattle), due to the remoteness of their settlements. Rainfall is rare, so what small-scale agriculture there is, mostly just covers their own needs (corn, sunflowers, beans). Opportunities to make or increase income are few and far between, and it’s often virtually impossible for parents to come up with the school fees for their children’s education. On the other hand, school attendance helps in various ways, as kids often show up to school with empty stomachs and are very much in need of the two nutritious meals they are served there: a substantial portion of porridge at 10am, and a light lunch around noon – and that means there’s one less thing to worry about for their hard-working parents.
We buy fair traded, organic cacao from Tanzania, and have frequently visited our local producers there. We’re therefore particularly delighted to be able to support children in Tanzania in collaboration with the »Caritas« charity.
We are contributing to the building of a canteen, a kitchen and of course regular school meals so the children get nutritious meals and don’t have to eat them while sitting on the ground in the dust, heat or rain. This allows many parents to make their children’s education a priority. Kids get a full belly but also attend a robust curriculum, providing them with better opportunities for the future.
By buying a »Chocolate for School« bar, you’ll support this campaign and the children of Tanzania!
Together, we can move mountains – and provide Tanzanian children with access to both food and education. One meal a day is essential, and it’s the minimum a child should get. From a chocolate bar to the blackboard – together we will do our best to help as many children as possible!
